8 Books to Read Before They Air on TV This Year

The following books have been adapted into TV series that will debut in 2015. If you’d like to read the book before watching the show, you can find these titles in the JMRL catalog.

The Shannara Series by Terry Brooks
Adapted into: Shannara on MTV

A series of books that blends magic and primitive technology and is set in a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by chemical and nuclear holocaust. The TV show will focus on the second book in the series, The Elfstones of Shannara.

The Magicians by Lev Grossman
Adapted into: The Magicians on Syfy
Premiere: TBD in 2015
After graduating from a secret, exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, Quentin Coldwater finds that a fictional land from a series of childhood fantasy novels is real, but is more darker and dangerous than he could have imagined.

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke
Adapted into: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell on BBC America
Premiere: TBD in 2015
All is going well for rich, reclusive Mr. Norell, who has regained some of the power of England’s magicians from the past, until a rival magician, Jonathan Strange, appears and becomes Mr. Norrell’s pupil, in a witty fantasy set against the backdrop of nineteenth-century England.
