Summer is winding down at JMRL even though it’s still hot outside! Although the Summer Reading Challenge is over, there’s still time to collect your prize books from any JMRL branch before August 31.
Over 7,100 participants read almost 7 million minutes over the course of the 10 week challenge! More than 9,500 prizes have been awarded so far, including limited edition tote bags and books for readers of all ages.
Teen participants enjoyed the new teen BINGO challenge, with the option to complete challenges to earn eligibility in a special teen prize drawing at each branch.
More than 22,000 people beat the heat this summer by attending library programs across the JMRL branches. Some of the most popular events included:
- Summer Kickoffs at every branch
- Northside Library’s tie-dye party
- Magic with Gary the Great, from the Summer Performer Series
- Central Library’s partnership with Beloved Community Cville to celebrate Sarah Ann Kelly’s life and legacy
- Gordon Avenue’s “Fledglings Preschool Storytime,” which had an astonishing 108 attendees at one of the weekly sessions.
