Central Library’s Brown Baggers held their annual holiday potluck and selection meeting on December 18th, 2025. This group has been meeting since 2008 and the annual meeting in December is when the titles are chosen for June-May of the next year. Each attendee is invited to suggest up to 3 titles for the group to consider reading. After all the titles have been suggested, the group literally votes, by putting hashmarks next to the titles they most want to read. You have to be present to vote, but not to suggest titles.
Library staff then decide what order the books will be read based on various factors such as themes, copies available, length/number of pages, and current library waiting lists.
For June 2026- May 2027, here are the selected titles:
- June 18 The Wind Knows My Name by Isabel Allende
- July 16 Ficciones by Jorge Luis Borges
- August 20 Charlottesville: An American Story by Deborah Baker
- September 17 Culpability by Bruce Holisinger
- October 15 The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark
- November 19 The Human Stain by Philip Roth
- December 17 Selection meeting/Pot Luck
- January 21 The Russia House  by John LeCarre
