Sadeqa Johnson’s The House of Eve selected as JMRL’s 2026 Same Page Community Read
Programs and events planned for March in partnership with Virginia Festival of the Book
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Dec. 19, 2025 – JMRL and Virginia Humanities are pleased to announce that Sadeqa Johnson’s The House of Eve, winner of the NPR, Goodreads, and Apple Best Book Awards, is the 2026 Same Page Community Read selection.
About the book: The House of Eve (2023), a redemptive and powerful novel set in 1950’s Philadelphia and Washington, DC, that navigates what it means to be a woman, a mother, and what must be sacrificed in the name of achieving a goal, is “a powerful witnessing, and a remarkable addition to Johnson’s already stunning bibliography” (Robert Jones, Jr.) and “A triumph of historical fiction” (Washington Post).
About the author: Sadeqa Johnson is the New York Times bestselling author of five novels. Her most recent novel, The House of Eve, was an instant New York Times bestseller, Reese’s Book Club selection, NAACP Image Award nominee, and Goodreads Choice award finalist. Her previous novel, Yellow Wife, was the Library of Virginia’s Literary People’s Choice Award winner, Goodreads Choice Award finalist, Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy finalist, and a BCALA Literary Award honoree.
About Same Page Community Read: Each year, JMRL invites all book lovers to participate in the Same Page Community Read throughout March, providing residents with the opportunity to read and discuss a single book within their community by an author appearing at the Virginia Festival of the Book, a program of Virginia Humanities.
Same Page Community Read is generously funded by the Friends of JMRL, supported by the Art and Jane Hess Fund of the Library Endowment and Virginia Festival of the Book, which is a program of Virginia Humanities that will take place March 20-22 in Charlottesville, VA.
